The mission of the Auditor and staff of the
Barnwell County Auditor's Office is to provide the citizens
of Barnwell County with accuracy and courtesy in the performance
of their responsibilities. These responsibilities include
the taxation of personal property such as, motor homes, campers,
trailers, motorcycles, watercraft and watercraft motors, merchant's
furniture, fixtures, and equipment, aircraft, and manufacturer's
real and personal property.
The Auditor's office also accepts and certifies
homestead exemption applications. If you meet the following
qualifications, you may qualify for an exemption from taxation
of the first $50,000 appraised value of your legal residence:
1. Hold complete fee simple title or life estate to primary
residence.
2. As of December 31 preceding the tax year of the exemption,
you were a legal resident of South Carolina for one year.
3. As of December 31 preceding the tax year of the exemption,
you were 65 years of age, or were declared totally and permanently
disabled by a state or federal agency having the authority
to make such a declaration, or were legally blind as certified
by a licensed ophthalmologist registered with the South Carolina
Commission for the Blind.
